EIA/ES Chapters

What are EIA/ES Chapters?

An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is a comprehensive process used to assess the effects of development projects on the environment.

An Environmental Statement (ES) covers the entire EIA for a development project, not just the ecological aspects. It identifies the significant environmental effects of the scheme, defines the effects and mitigation measures proposed and provides an overall evaluation of the positive and negative effects of the scheme, identifying whether there are any residual impacts after mitigation. The ES Chapter on ecology is a critical part of the EIA process.

Our Approach.

At Ecology by Design, we are highly experienced at looking at development projects in their entirety and considering the ecology and biodiversity impacts across the scheme. We are adept at collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams, identifying the risk factors, recommending mitigation and alternative, pragmatic solutions which can meet both client and planning objectives.

Reporting.

We often provide input into EIA screening opinion requests to Councils and we are adept at providing detailed Ecology Chapters to inform EIAs. We will look at the legislative framework, baseline conditions, impacts, proposed mitigations, limitations and enhancements, with an overall summary to support the conclusions.
