Succeed with your Leisure & Heritage planning permission application

At Ecology by Design, we routinely conduct ecological surveys and assessments for developers working in the Hotel and Leisure Industry. If you are considering developing a historic building or landscape, there are legal requirements that you will need to adhere to in order to have your application be successful.

Our team of ecologists has vast experience helping developers succeed with planning applications, whether this be for site use changes, renovations or extensions.

Our ecologists have worked across renovations, extensions and change of use projects for:

  • Hotels and spas;

  • Luxury camp, cabin or pod sites;

  • Golf courses;

  • Construction works within listed gardens;

  • Landscape modifications to improve user experience, recreation, visual amenity, ecotourism or rewilding.

Our Previous Experience in the Leisure & Heritage Sector

Examples of our previous experience within the leisure and heritage sector include:

  • Securing and implementing bat mitigation licences for in excess of fifty properties to enable demolition, conversion and/or refurbishment works to proceed lawfully;

  • Translocation of great crested newts and reptiles from development sites;

  • Exclusion of badgers from many development sites, as well as a listed garden to prevent damage;

  • Assessing impacts of lighting on wildlife;

  • Ecology BREEAM assessments for developments;

  • Acting as an Ecological Clerk of Works during construction to prevent impacts on protected species like nesting birds;

  • Preparing management plans for landscapes and gardens to increase their biodiversity value.

We are committed to delivering lasting environmental, social and economic benefit to the leisure and hotel industries. We conduct surveys for all terrestrial and freshwater wildlife and work with our clients to take projects through from scoping, to planning approval, construction and monitoring.

Our job is to help our clients develop new sites or optimise their existing properties. We approach every project as a collaboration between us, our client and any other specialists involved (engineers, arborists etc). We are an approachable company which readily establishes and maintains open, professional and personable relationships. This is evidenced by the repeat business we secure and consistent 5-star reviews on Google.
