Species Surveys

Surveys of protected and priority species such as bats, badgers, great crested newts, dormice, otter, water vole, reptiles and invertebrates. We provide a comprehensive ecological service ranging from simple scoping surveys to detailed impact assessments.
If you see signs of badger activity on a potential development site, or evidence of badgers of any kind, you will need to conduct a badger survey in order for your development or planning application to proceed.
If you are planning a development project that is at risk of disturbing or damaging a bat roost, you will need to conduct a daytime bat walkover (DBW) and preliminary roost assessment followed by bat surveys.
Where a development is going to have a high impact level such as solar / wind farm projects, large housing schemes, proposals that are going to result in destruction / fragmentation of habitats on a site, they will be absolutely essential for any planning submission.

If you are planning a development project that could impact an area of woodland, hedgerow or scrub, a survey for hazel dormouse may be required for your development or planning application to proceed.
If there are ponds or other aquatic features within or near a site, great crested newts will need further assessment.
If you are planning a development project that could impact suitable reptile habitat or reptile species themselves, a reptile survey will need to be conducted in order for your development or planning application to proceed.

If you are planning a development project that could impact a waterbody or watercourse either directly or indirectly, a survey for otter may be required for your development or planning application to proceed.
If you are planning a development project that could impact a waterbody or watercourse either directly or indirectly, a water vole survey may be required for your development or planning application to proceed.
Ecology by Design working with its team of specialist associates can offer various other protected or notable species surveys.
