There are 3 approaches to achieving BNG:
Managing/monitoring the additional land available within the scheme to deliver 10% BNG. This could be onsite, off-site or both.
To deliver onsite BNG, sufficient land must be available and of a type to be able to deliver the gain required.
If BNG is being secured off-site on other landholdings owned by the developer, again the habitat will need to be properly assessed in order to ensure it delivers enough BNG units to offset the proposed development. This applies to leasing or buying additional land.
In both cases, a legal document will be required which states how the land will be managed for a 30-year period.
The final option is to buy the biodiversity units needed from a registered landbank, which especially for smaller sites, can be the quickest, simplest and most cost-effective option. Ecology by Design has a sister company https://civitynge.com/ which can offer a straight-forward, off-the-peg solution which will deliver everything that LPAs require to satisfy BNG.
Having selected a preferred approach and finalised the landscaping scheme, we complete our reports, ready for submission as part of the planning application.
Once planning consent has been granted, we can ensure the streamlined discharge of Conditions such as the production of Biodiversity Gain Plans (BGPs) and HMMPs to help you begin construction as quickly as possible.
